Drywall repair in Northwest Arkansas
A doorknob hole, a crack over a door frame, a ceiling stain from a leak. The patch is the easy part; making it disappear into the texture and paint around it, and making sure the cause is fixed, is the job.
What we repair
Drywall repair and texture is one of the smaller jobs we take year round, for homeowners and for rental and Airbnb owners between guests or tenants. That covers:
- Holes from doorknobs, furniture, old anchors and wall-mounted TVs.
- Cracks at the corners of doors and windows and along taped seams.
- Nail and screw pops, where a fastener pushes the paper out.
- Water-stained or sagging ceilings under a bathroom, a roof leak or an attic line.
- Whole sheets replaced after damage, or where a plumber or electrician had to open the wall.
Drywall repair often comes with other work: a door frame or trim that took the same hit, or flooring after a leak. We do those as one job. See home renovations and repairs for the rest of the smaller jobs we take.
Matching the texture
A patch is only finished when you can’t find it. Most of the work is in the finish, not the patch: the joint compound is feathered out well past the repair, sanded, and then the wall’s texture is rebuilt over it before primer and paint. A smooth patch on a textured wall shows the minute light hits it from the side, and so does a patch whose texture is heavier or lighter than the wall around it.
Most walls and ceilings have one of a few finishes: smooth, a fine orange-peel spray, knockdown, or a hand-troweled pattern. We match the one you have and blend it out to a corner or a natural break where we can.
Water damage: fix the leak first
A stained ceiling is a symptom. If the leak behind it is still active, a new patch will stain again, so the order is: find and stop the water, let everything dry, then cut out what can’t be saved and repair. The EPA’s mold guidance is to “fix plumbing leaks and other water problems as soon as possible” and dry everything completely, and it notes that porous materials that get moldy may have to be thrown away. Drywall that has been wet long enough to soften, sag or grow mold gets cut out and replaced, not painted over.
We do the carpentry and drywall side of water damage. Water removal and drying are specialist work, and we’ll point you to people we trust for it. If the damage came from a storm, the insurance steps come before the repairs; our storm damage repair page walks through them.
Does drywall repair need a permit?
A patched hole or a crack doesn’t change anything the city regulates. It changes once the repair opens the wall to replace framing, rewire or move plumbing: that is an alteration, and NWA cities want a permit for it. Fayetteville, for example, requires a permit before altering a building and separate permits for plumbing, electrical and HVAC work, even when a licensed contractor does it, while painting and flooring are exempt. Bentonville and Rogers have their own remodel paperwork, covered on our Bentonville remodeling and Rogers pages. We pull the permits for the work we do.
Hiring someone for drywall repair
For a bigger repair, Arkansas requires a state contractor license for residential remodeling and home-improvement work over $2,000, so ask for the number and look it up with the Arkansas Contractors Licensing Board. Ask whether the price includes texture, primer and paint, or stops at the patch; the finish is most of the visible result. And on a water-damaged ceiling, ask what the contractor will do if the drywall is wet or moldy above the stain.
HomeAdvisor puts the national average at about $613. Water-damaged drywall runs $600 – $1,550, ceilings $220 – $1,300, and retexturing adds $100 – $900.

Questions about drywall repairs
How much does drywall repair cost?
Nationally, HomeAdvisor puts most drywall repairs between about $296 and $930, with an average around $613; water-damaged drywall runs $600 to $1,550 and retexturing adds $100 to $900. Those are national averages, not our prices. We give you a free written, itemized estimate.
Can you match my wall or ceiling texture?
Yes. We rebuild the texture over the patch, whether it is orange peel, knockdown or a hand-troweled finish, then prime and paint so the repair blends into the wall around it.
Should I fix a water-stained ceiling before or after the leak is repaired?
After. Stop the leak and let the area dry first, or the stain comes back. Drywall that has softened, sagged or grown mold gets cut out and replaced rather than painted over.
